Ben Dehart Great Artist Paragraph (not my reflection)

For my artist I chose Ben Dehart. Ben Dehart is a local artist who work sfor Trader Joe’s designing the creating their black boards. He work for the Trader Joe’s in Hill Crest. I was always very impressed by the work he has displayed in the store and I always wondered who did it. This years great artist project gave me a great chance to learn about him and his work. One of the reasons I chose him was because his work was different from the artist people had chosen. He’s work has a cartoony flare to it but it’s also intricate and smooth.

Most of Ben Dehart’s work for Trader Joe’s was based on the products that the store was advertising. Since I didn’t have any product I was trying to sell to base my art on, I decided to base then one people in my class and memories from my time in NMY. I was happy that we were able to chose our own artists and design our own projects this year instead on all basing our art on the same artist.

I tried to incorporate Ben Dehart’s style into my art work. I added words including onomonopia to describe my paintings like he had used in some of his black boards. I made four blacks boards by covering foam poster board in black board paint.  I started by covering cardboard in chalkboard paint but it was too flimsy. I started by drawing in chalk but it was difficult to incorporate details. Then I crushed up the chalk to make paint but it was to clumpy and it peeled off. I finally decided to paint the pictures in acrylic paint and then add accents of chalk.  More to come….
