Ronald Reagan
Reagan was a well know president because of his thoughts taxing and social classes. Reagan was elected in 1981 and served a two term presidency. This year would be his 100th birthday. Reagan beileved that if you cut taxes and reduced government spending it would prevent inflation. Recent articles show that inflation increaed during Reagan’s presidency.
Some people considered Ronald Reagan one of the most influenial right wing conservative people. Reagan actually started out as a democrat. Then after working at General Electric he switched over and became a right wing conservative. Before he got into politics he was an actor and on the Hollywood actor union. In 1981 Regan was elected as president with George W. Bush as his Vice President. George W. Bush also became Reagan’s succeeder.
In honner of Reagan’s 100th birthday there was a documentary made called Reagan. It includes his youngest son speaking about his career as well as his family life. He tells about his father’s success though he also includes some critizims on his father’s career. I think that being able to critic your own father’s career on camera, is a very brave and diffcult task. He talks about how his father said he wasn’t going to raise taxes and he ended up raising taxes six of the eight years he was president. This movie is not only for people who experienced the Reagan era but to teach people about it.
Before Ronald Reagan became president inflation was pretty low one barrel of gasoline was around 20 dollars. When Reagan was in office it was around 51 dollars. Reagan had said that he wasn’t going to raise taxes. Though he did he raised taxes and most of the time he was in office.
