Immigration Project Reflection
Charlie, John, Tati and I decided we wanted to do a project on Immigration. We started by researching waves of immigration and then divided up the topics. We decided to get a collection of interviews from people who knew about each of our topics. I really enjoyed my group even though they were people I had worked with before. At first I thought we weren’t going to have enough to show for six weeks of work then we started getting interviews and I was happy with the final product.
The process of getting he interviews was slow and frustrating. You had to start by finding someone to interview then contacting them and asking if they wanted to be interviewed. Most of us struggled with not being able to find people to interview or people not responding to their emails. Next we had to compile a list of questions and get a little back round knowledge on the topic. Once we had done that and scheduled the date for the interview and decided the media for the interview (Audio recording or written) you went and had your interview. Once you finished your interview you had to edit it and then post it to the blog we created for the project share our interviews.
My the end of the six weeks we had a total of nine interviews and four essays on our blog. I think that was a fair amount of work to have done by the end of the six weeks. Though I think we could have gotten a few more interviews I am proud of our final project. At first we had a lot more planned for our project. We were going to make a Dummies Guide to Immigration and we were also going to study Native Americans but we didn’t have enough time and it was difficult to find interviews.
I would like to do another project that includes conducting interviews. I think it is good practice with communicating with people outside of my comfort zone. Right now I am contacting people for the spring trip to San Luis Obispo and we are trying to find a house. Now that I have done a longer project i would like to do a project on the shorter side.
