Physics Experiment
In science our class has been studying physics and Sir Isaac Newton’s laws. We started by conducting experiments about speed and acceleration. Then we moved on to doing experiments using slope and inclines. Our group decided we wanted to do something different so we tried to make a never ending track. It was a difficult experiment for us to take on and it took a lot of creative thinking to get it to work.
My group attempted to make a never ending track. We made it out of matchbox car track and hung it from the ceiling. First we tried building it on the ground but that didn’t work because the track kept folding up. After that we decided to try and hang it from the ceiling but that didn’t work either because the same problem kept happening. We also tried covering the track with pipe insolation but that didn’t work either. Our experiment didn’t exactly work but we learned a lot from it. We learned that if you don’t have circle track the track will roll up and not stay in a flat circle. The other problem was that it was very difficult to get the right bumps in the track so that the marble would keep going. I would like to give this experiment another try and maybe try using bumpy track.
Our groups question was, Is it possible to create a never ending track that doesn’t need any human assistance. Both the other groups made raps that were really steep but our group want to do something different. At first we were going to make a track that rapped all around a room but that was a little ambitious for the time constraints and our knowledge. At first I really thought that it was going to work but as we got later into the project I didn’t think we were going to have time. It was getting really frustrating when the strings holding the track to ceiling would fall and when the track curled up and started to break.
Even though our experiment didn’t end up working we still got to learn a lot. We learned that as frustrating as it gets just keep trying. For our next project we are going to be making Rube Goldberg machines and studying simple machines. A Rube Goldberg Machine is a machines using a bunch of simple step and simple machines to do a simple task. I am really excited for these coming projects I will get apply what I have learn which will make it easier for me.
