San Francisco Trip Reflection

Last week the 7th and 8th graders from NMY went on an urban exploration to San Francisco. We stayed at a hostel to save money to do other activities. We broke up into group so that it would give people a chance to see more of what they wanted to see. The trip cost 700 dollars for 7 days and 6 nights so we had to eat kinda cheap. Our class got to explore San Francisco in a different way then most people, because we used all public transportation and, walked as much as we could.

Staying in the Hostels was a new concept for most of the students on this trip. The hostel that our class stayed at was a nice hostel. We had access to a kitchen and, a small movie theater. At first the hostels were a little strange and uncomfortable but by the second day they felt normal. The Hostel wasn’t like a hotel because it had shared bathrooms and bunk beds. There were other people staying so we had to make sure didn’t disrupt them.

The group I was in was called TGTDASAIBTY which means The Group That Does Awesome Stuff and Is Better The You. Our group did a lot of walking during the week. This didn’t bother me and it didn’t bother anybody in the group either. I liked my group because they were very flexible and barley ever complained about not having the most luxurious meals or the mass quantities. The only problem that came about in our group was communication in decision making. Sometimes not everybody was paying attention when we were making decisions and people weren’t getting what they needed.

At first San Francisco was not what I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be like it looks in the postcards. It was like that is some areas like Lombard St., and telegraph hill. Other areas were a little bit more scary and unfamiliar to us. When we went into those areas we all just remembered that if we got to scared we could turn around. My favorite part of the trip was when we walked across the Golden Gate Bridge. I liked walking across the bridge because it was a real classic place to go in San Francisco.

I absolutely  love that I got this opportunity to go to San Francisco on an Urban Exploration. I thought that most of the discussions made before that trip were good choices were good ones. I thought that 700 dollars was a good budget it wasn’t too much that we were spending unnecessarily and not too little that we didn’t have enough. Overall I loved this trip and I hope that many future NMY classes get to enjoy trip similar to this one.
